How the fear of speaking în public affects the rhythm of learning a foreign language?
Learning a foreign language doesn’t seem like a complicated process because we humans are communication-oriented and tend to interact with our peers. But sometimes this rhythm can be affected by the fear of public speaking. Where does this fear come from? Most people are open to socialising, the tendency to learn new things, coupled with the excitement and curiosity of delving into the mysteries of a new civilisation and culture. But some people face a fear, often irrational, of public speaking. Their fear of interacting with others around them, of opening up to other people, blocks their ability to express themselves in public. And that’s when the emotional block is created.
An important factor in language learning is conversation in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Introverts who find it difficult to interact with others will find it much harder to learn a new language because they cannot develop oral communication skills.
Even if they master the language grammatically, an antisocial person will not be able to grasp the syntactic and semantic structure of the new language, as these skills develop mainly at a conversational level. The fear of speaking in public, of conversing with others, prevents the acquisition of knowledge of the terminology of a foreign language. It is a proven fact that a learner understands and retains a foreign language best by communicating in that language, exchanging ideas with others.
However, even introverts can overcome their fear of public speaking by seeking specialist help. Since this fear negatively affects language learning, the person concerned must work on overcoming their fear, relearning to communicate first with those close to them and then with strangers.
